Playing and building a deck require no booster purchase

Origins TCG is free to play and free to compete. Koin Games says players can earn every card needed for competitive decks through play; spending does not buy stronger cards or a gameplay advantage. You may still need to progress to unlock decks: free does not mean everything is already available in the first minute.

Checked on 31 October 2026 using the Steam listing, the 27 October Kickstarter announcement and update 0.8. In-game prices, offers and conditions can change.

Four categories to keep separate

Item What it adds Required to play?
Gameplay cards The cards in your decks, unlocked through progression. No purchase required.
Collectible cards Individual visual collectibles with variants and grades. No.
Collector Pass Access to the collectible reward programme described by Koin. No.
Kickstarter reward A package of Alpha products and bonuses, depending on the tier. No.

Gameplay cards and collectibles: the same game, different items

A rarer or higher-graded version does not become a stronger gameplay card. Differences belong to the collectible copy: artwork, treatment, edition, grade and presentation. An item’s scarcity is not a requirement to buy it before using that character.

Update 0.8 distinguishes starter gameplay cards, which remain available for play, from collectible cards tradable on the Steam Market. At that date, non-card collectible cosmetics are not yet tradable. Objects visible in the game therefore do not automatically share the same trading status.

What does buying a booster provide?

An Alpha Collector Pack contains five collectible cards, with a guaranteed Rare according to Koin’s creator brief. They are not five necessary unlocks to make your deck competitive. A booster box contains 24 packs and a case contains six boxes; these are digital products.

You might enjoy opening packs, keeping a product sealed or finding a particular illustration. None is required to learn the game. Our booster contents guide explains the formats; our grading guide explains the ratings.

What is the Collector Pass for?

In its official 27 October announcement, Koin describes a lifetime Collector Pass included in each Kickstarter reward tier, linked to weekly collectibles such as card backs, emotes and capsules. It concerns collecting, rather than access to stronger gameplay cards.

The official Collector Pass image promises one free limited-edition collectible each week, with a single purchase and lifetime access. It also advertises collector-only cosmetics and access to Grandmaster leaderboard prizes. It does not guarantee a weekly rare card or booster, or specify missed-week rules or the current shop price. See the Collector Pass benefits and official image.

Do you have to back Kickstarter?

No. The campaign concerns the Myths & Legends Alpha Edition and collectible rewards. Koin describes it as exclusive to the campaign, with no further issuance afterward. That does not close access to the corresponding gameplay cards.

Bonuses differ by tier and some stretch goals have eligibility conditions. Compare the reward contents, any included Pass and announced delivery dates before purchasing something separately. Understand the campaign · Explore the stretch goals.

What should a beginner choose?

Start without buying: play the tutorial, follow missions and learn a deck over several matches. If collecting appeals later, identify the item or programme you actually want before paying. Collectible trading does not promise a buyer or a profit.
